7the International Exhibition
Oil and Gas Petrochemicals Tehran 2002
Norwegain ambassador Aas: -Aggressive Norwegians!
When Iran's elite Speaker of the Parliament His Excellency Mehdi Karroubi snubbed the medium sized Norwegian oil company Statoil's exhibition stand at the 7the International Exhibition of Oil and Gas Petrochemicals in Tehran 2002, and forced the Norwegian Ambassa-dor to Tehran Mr Aas to shout in despair, "Aggressive Norwegians!". And the pompous representative of Norwegian Oil and Gas Partners INTSOK bursting out, "Will he (Karroubi) come back?" It was Good Night for Norway in Iran. Norway was not being thrusted, and Statoil would soon be kicked out of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Picture: Norway's Ambassador Aas shouts out in dismay, "Aggressive Norwegians" (Norwegian: Aggressive norske!)

The final straw: Iran's elite turn its back towards Norway's Statoil
His Excellency Mehdi Karroubi
Speaker of the Parliament Mailes
CLICK PLAY KARROUBI IN MAILIS VIDEO
Besided Minister of Oil Zangeneh, Karroubi was the main speaker at the 7th International Exhibition of Oil and Gas in Tehran in 2002, which Petrofilm joined. He born 26 September 1937 and is an Iranian Shia cleric and reformist politician leading the National Trust Party. He was the speaker of the parliament from 1989 to 1992 and 2000 to 2004, and a presidential candidate in the 2005 and 2009 presidential elections. During his first term as speaker of Parliament, Karroubi was among the maktabi or "radical" faction of the majlis who contested the policies of President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.
While Rafsanjani favored foreign investment and market reforms, Karroubi and others "sought to promote mass political participation and maintain state control of the economy". In fall of 1989 several radical clerics founded the Association of Combatant Clerics of Tehran, which Karroubi headed. Karroubi and the National Trust Party support the idea of dialogue with the United States aiming at resolving long standing conflicts.Early after the election of Barack Obama as US president, Karroubi stated that the changes from the United States have been positive. "An important step has been taken…. I will take steps forward in this relation in accordance with national interests and national pride", he said .
THE FAULTERING (AND COSTLY) NORWEGIAN LOGIC
Everything was Big when Norweay entered Iran - and suddenly everything collapsed!
Mehdi Karroubi cannot get in because the Norwegians are blocking the passage!
As His Excellency Karroubi with his large entourage came closer to the Statoil stand, all of the present Norwegians did their best not to open up for this distinguished Iranian guest. They continued to block the entrance to the stand. Ambaasdor Aas tried his very best to encourage Karroubi and His entourage to enter. Statoil was suurounded by much bigger oil companies like LUKOIL and TOTAL FINA ELF, seen in the background left side. Photo: Harald Dahle-Sladek Petrofilm.
The Iranians are embarrased, ambassador Aas shows the way, but still the Norwegians block!
Then, without warning, and while the Iranian TV camera is rolling (left) the representative of Karroubi's entourage tells Ambassador Aas directly that His Excellency will not attend the Statoil exhibition stand. Karroubi right, is ready to back out.
Why travel so far and spend so many bribes and get nothing out of it is more than we can understand. The faltering and costly Norwegian logic had once again proven wrong. One of the oldest and most respected cultures had disapproved of the Norwegians. Only a few years later Peoples Republic of China would do exactly the same. Photo: From left, Werner Karlsson (left) from Norwegian Oil and Gas Partners INTSOK, sitting next to Harald Finnvik, General Manager of Statoil in Iran, with earpods and wearing glasses shouts out in a naive way, "Will Karroubi come back?" Clearly, this arrogant man had understood nothing. INTSOK is owned by the Norwegian State, the Foreign Ministry in Oslo and the Norwegian industry. That explains it all. Read my article: Iran - NIOC End Game Tehran.
Mr Bjornsen, left, from the Norwegian Export Council hated me. He did all he could to disrupt my work and make may stay in Tehran a living hell. A pleasant man, Ambassador Aas to the right. Photo: Harald Dahle-Sladek Petrofilm
To the right, Mojtaba Khorrasani, Manager of NIOC's seismic survey department whom I interviewed in Oslo. See my article with him. A pleasant man. Below Harald Finnvik General Manager Statoil in Iran
Photo below, Manager Egil Olbjorn from the Norwegian Veritas, a very pleasant man whom I did work for.
