MY ROUTE FROM ABADAN TO HENDYJAN AND BANDAR BUSHEHR I flew from Tehran to the refinery city of Abadan. Abadan was actually the old Scandinavian Airlines, SAS, route from Rome to Karachi, Pakistan. I went by car from Abadan airport to Sar Bandar (Serbender) where I stayed for one night. Further on to Bandar-e Khomeini, then to Bandar-e Mashahr (Mahshahr = meaning Moon City). We arived in the evening and had a small dinner outside at one of the local small diners. Next day by the same car to Hendyjan. Last stop was the marsh land at the coast (not shown here) Then by fast boat to the Chinese seismic mother ship Bin Hai 504. Later in the project I would go by car to Busher, 360Km from Hendyjan, in the night.
After nearly two months underways I had finally reached the ancient city of Bushehr. To the south of the present city, at Reeshire, are the remains of an earlier Elamite (c 3000 BCE) settlement. During the Greek Macedonian Seleucid dynasty the city was refounded as Antiochia in Persis (Αντιόχεια της Περσίδος) by Seleucus Nicator. A few decades later the city was rebuilt by Seleucus's son Antiochus who transferred there colonists from Magnesia. Bushehr below. The genuine politeness and hospitality among these Iranian workers toward me shine through the DNA of a more than ten thousand year old civilization. In the West, people only look at their I-phones, never smile and make you feel well. This is the Iranian Civilization at it's best. Far away from the dissatisfied, browling Iranians in Los Angeles and Oslo who talk about Iran and it's people as if it was dirt.
Early morning in Busher on January 24, 2000, just hours before I leave by plane to Dubai. I had documented and logged activities on three ships and moved myself over great distances. Often with little sleep, new food and local customs. I was quite tired actually and looked forward to rest.
Contrary to what many people in the West say, I say that nowhere did I experience more humanness among the people than In the Islamic Republic of Iran.I found more spirituality in Teheran than on St. Peters Square in front of the Catholic Church in Rome.
MAJOR OIL FIELDS IN PROVINCE KHUZESTAN AND THE PERSIAN GULF The name Hendyjan on this map refers to the oil field Hendyjan at the coast by the same name. It lays very close to the oil field by the name Bahrgan Sar, at 1 o'clock above the name Persian Gulf.
POLITICS AND RELIGION IN THE MIDDLE EAST Five illustrations that will give you a pretty good insight in what's going on and who's doing what to whom.IRAN PERSIA TERRITORIAL CHANGES 19th and 20th CENTURY
National Museum of Iran aging more than 70 years, containing 300,000 museum objects in an area more than 20,000 square meters, is not only the largest museum of History and Archaeology of the country, but ranks as one of the few most presti- gous museums of the world in re- gard to grand volume, diversity and quality of its huge monuments. In the Iranian museum tradition
it is considered Iran’s mother mus- eum, aiming at preserving relics of the past to hand down to the next generations, enhancing better un- derstanding among world peoples and nations, discovering and show- ing Iranian’s roles in shaping world culture and civilization and trying to enhance public knowledge.
